The late Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi was the first elected Executive Governor of Kano State from 1979 - 1983. Rimi, a fearless political orator lost re- election to the late Alhaji Aliyu Sabo Bakin Zuwo in 1983.The late Rimi has neither attempted to rig the election nor has he attempted to confiscate the mandate which plainly does not belong to him.
Abubakar Rimi respected himself, his family, the people of Kano State, the Nigerian law and democratization process by peacefully handed over the power to the democratically elected governor late Alhaji Sabo Bakin Zuwo, a natural or born political comedian in Kano and Nigeria.
The late Sabo Bakin Zuwo served for a period of 3 months before the democratically elected government was over thrown in the second republic under the leadership of Shehu Shagari by military led by General Muhammad Buhari, the current president and Commander In chief on 31st December 1983.!!!
Rimi is now comfortably resting in peace under the Mercy of God and is being remembered with excellent records of good governance devoid the sale of grave yards, mosque, public schools land, parks, stadium, play ground, space in tertiary institutions in the State. He also refused to use thugs to kill his people to remain in temporary political power.
In 1999, Engr.Dr Rabu' u Musa Kwankwaso was also elected as the Executive Governor of Kano State. Though young and progeny with brilliance and political foresight, Kwankwaso contested for reelection in 2003 and lost to Malam Ibrahim Shekarau who did not even expect the outcome of the election to be in his favour.
Kwankwaso has every power and support to rig the election and confiscate the people's mandate and the victory of Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, but refused to use thugs fully armed to the teeth and heartless politicians to kill his people for the sole reason of maintaining a temporary seat of political power.
Dr. Rabi' u Musa did the unexpected by surprising Kano and other Nigerians including the world political observers. This is because after conceding a defeat , Kwankwaso led members of his cabinet and other political advisers to the house of Malam Ibrahim Shekarau where he congratulated him, wished him all the best and hand over power to him been the newly elected governor of Kano State.
Shekarau been overwhelmed with excitement, expressed happiness and appreciation to Engr Dr. Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso for his courage and political sincerity for doing what was never done in the political history of Kano State.
Kwankwaso left office peacefully in 2003 with no bad records of dolar graving, sale of mosques, grave yards, eidel prayer ground, public schools land, stadiums, public play ground, and other recreational centers and monthly deductions of pension from pensioners.
In 2011 , Kwankwaso challenged the incumbent candidate Malam Salisu Sagir Takai for a referral governance and political redress which he won handsomely. Malam Shekarau with every power and support at his disposal then, refused to use armed thugs and security personnel to intimidate and kill his people for the purpose of retaining a temporary political power.
Shekarau also left office peacefully and happily with no bad records of the sale of public properties like Daula Hotel, Radio Kano, Zoological gardens, Radio Tukuntawa and kwari markets.
In addition, Shekarau returned the kind gesture by handing over power to the dully elected Kano State governor Rabi' u Musa Kwankwaso.Kano State people and other Nigerians domiciling in Kano rejoiced with honour and respect to the Nigerian government then.
Engr. Dr. Rabi' u Musa Kwankwaso performed excellently well in all aspects of human endeavor. And in the field of education, capacity building and general infrastructure, his performance was unprecedented and is part of the reasons that has made him to be an icon of world class politics and democracy.
In the year 2015, Kwankwaso through begging and appeals from the prominent people and politicians in Kano, reluctantly allowed Ganduje to contest for governorship election, and been the incumbent candidate, Ganduje won the election neatly, but performed badly and below expectations as observed by the general public.
In 2019 Nigerian general elections, Ganduje was voted out of political power by the people of Kano State but refused to concede the defeat and hand over the government to Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf who won the election. Instead Ganduje used armed thugs and dishonest security personnel in collaboration with Buhari APC led Federal government as alleged and widely speculated to rig and shamelessly confiscated the mandate and victory of Kano State people in a brethen daylight robbery.
In the event, many people including women and children were reported killed, injured or intimidated as alleged. Journalists both foreign and nationals were openly humiliated and disgraced by Governor Ganduje and his political cohorts as alleged and widely speculated.
Finally, these acts of open injustice and gross political madness were never attempted by Rimi, Kwankwaso or Malam Ibrahim Shekarau to the people of Kano state who are too delicate to be treated arrogantly and unjustifiably, no doubt there must be a reason for the trio to refuse to do what Ganduje has done to Kano people in the 2019 governorship election. May we live long to see.
