2023: Kwankwaso Remains PDP’s Best Option To Stage Power Comeback, Says Group.

A group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Network for Good Governance NGG in South West has stated that the immediate past governor of Kano State, Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso remains the best option to relaunch the party back to power come 2023.

According to the group, the PDP leadership would be doing it’s teeming membership a whole lot of good by fielding the former federal lawmaker as it’s presidential candidate in 2023to wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Coordinator of the NGG, Otunba Ayodele Goke Peter stated this in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Thursday while fielding questions from newsmen.

While excited that the PDP has an array of qualified members who can be put forward to vie for the nation’s prime office, Peter stated that Kwankwaso remains the best amongst the lot after his group considered all options opened to the party among the array of presidential hopefuls jostling for the ticket of the party.

He stated that his group decided to ditch the campaign group of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar whom it supported at the last election for the former minister, saying the decision being a collective one amongst members was taken in the interest of our party and all Nigerians.

“Yes! We supported the presidential bid of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in 2019 but owing to some factors, we have opted to shift our support and loyalty to the camp of Engineer Kwankwaso who in our reckoning is the best man for the job.

“If you will recollect, our group supported the aspiration of the former vice president with all the available resources at our disposal. We deployed our resources and energies to assist him during the last election but as we speak now, we are now with Engineer Kwankwaso.” He said.

On why the group took the decision, the Ibadan based politician added that his group used several yardsticks to measure and to appraise those putting themselves forward for the ticket of the party before arriving at the decision.

Peter stated that some of the yardsticks used include, acceptability, age, integrity, reputation, performance of those jostling for the ticket when they held political offices, saying the Kano born ex-lawmakers beat other contenders such as Atiku, Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and others to clinch their support.

“It (the appraisal) was a tough and rigorous one where we placed all the aspirants on proper scrutiny before we cast our lots with Kwankwaso. Owing to the mass appeal that the PDP has across the country, we are of the opinion that a Kwankwaso ticket will gel in the Northern part of the country.

He added that the mass appeal the former governor has in the North could only be compared to that of Buhari pre-2015, saying “When added to the veritable platform that the PDP has continued to have in the Southern part of the country, it would become a done deal for the party to return to power.

The group also lauded the Spartan lifestyle of the former governor in and out of power, saying Kwakwanso remains one of the few ex-public officers who have stained their hands in corruption by stealing public funds.
