The immediate past governor of Kano State, Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso has lamented over state of the Nation and deteriorating living standard in the country saying the country was better off under the rule of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
In a statement issued by his Media Office on Friday, Kwakwanso who is a former member of the upper legislative chambers said the country has not fared in any way better since People's Democratic Party PDP lost power in 2015 to All Progressives Congress, APC, he call on Nigerians to vote for the PDP come 2023.
The statement which is a comprehensive appraisal of the current government stated that when placed side by side, Nigerians as a people fared well in virtually all the indices for measuring performance adding that the people had never been worst managed in its entire history.
“Nigerians who have had the privilege and opportunity to witness the reigns of the two parties can see for themselves which one is better for them, whatever yardstick you want to use to measure performance in office PDP towers above the APC in all ramifications.” Kwakwanso said.
He drew sharp comparison between the two parties in government to illustrate his position such as the freedom, which the country enjoyed under the PDP, which he stated is clearly absent in the current dispensation, where government has been doing all it could to silent dissenting voices.
“Under the PDP, the citizens of Nigeria enjoyed unqualified freedom to express themselves regarding issues that borders on their wellbeing. Rather than curb or contain free speech, the PDP under the immediate past regime of Goodluck Jonathan enacted the Freedom of Information Act.
“This move is coming just as the Olusegun Obasanjo led PDP government ensure the liberalization of the information space which is the backbone for citizens’ participation in governance via the social media, unfortunately, that achievement is currently being eroded hiding under the guise of hate speech mantra to curtail that right, which formed the plank upon which this present government lunch themselves to power in 2015.” The former minister said.
The Kano born politician also lamented the fact that we are divided more than before as a country along its major fault lines of religion and ethnicity in a magnitude that has never been witnessed before in the country’s history.
“I agree that Nigeria is composed of peoples of diverse religious and ethnic creeds which in itself should not be a burden but an asset. Unfortunately, rather promoting unity in diversity which the PDP tried very hard to propagate and entrenched, but presently, that's not the case with many areas of the country feeling so much alienated and detached He said.
Kwakwanso also frown at the level of insecurity in the country especially the northern region where armed bandits reign supreme, saying the country has never been so traumatized the way it's going through presently.
“What further fact was to demonstrate this further is the recent classification of the country by reputable organizations as the third most traumatized country in the world in terms of insecurity occasioned by ceaseless banditry and insurgency in the country.” He said.
Commenting on the state of the nation’s economy where majority of the citizens finds it difficult to feed now, Kwakwanso said, “This is one area where the country has not fared well as Nigeria has had to endure two separate recessions under this regime compared to when the country was rated as the best thriving economy in the world.”
